PRESS RELEASE: ADC LAUNCHES COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO

 

TAMPA, Fla. (October 21, 2020) –Applied Data Corporation (ADC), the leading provider of Fresh Item Management technology for grocery and convenience stores, announced today that it will be collaborating with the University of Chicago (UChicago) on seven innovative data science projects over the course of the next year.

UChicago is a private research university in Illinois founded in 1890 with its main campus located in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood and additional campuses in Hong Kong & London. It is widely regarded as one of the best universities globally across multiple disciplines.

The University’s Master of Science in Analytics program has been growing rapidly over the past five years due to the surge in demand for data science talent, and now the top minds of UChicago will be working with the Fresh experts at ADC. Moreover, many of the professors in the program not only teach but are also leading industry practitioners across multiple disciplines from High Frequency Trading to Consumer Product Goods, Retail and Robotics.

The projects that UChicago will engage in span topics from Reinforcement Learning to Deep Learning to promotional analysis (to name a few). These projects are aimed at developing additional bespoke, state-of-the-art approaches for inventory management, production planning and replenishment while providing students with the opportunity to see data science & Machine Learning (ML) in action. These projects will complement the existing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-focused work that ADC already conducts for many of the biggest names in global retail.

ADC has strong ties to the University. Shamus Hines, ADC’s CEO, is a UChicago Booth School of Business alumnus, and their Chief Data Scientist, Michael Colella, is an alumnus of UChicago’s Master of Science in Analytics program.

The news of this collaboration comes just after the announcement of the University’s involvement in breakthrough research related to quantum technology, adding to an already exciting year for the University.
